In my documentaries, I search for stories about human connection and social change. Whether it’s young housing seekers moving in with elderly people, Dutch children helping refugees on Lesbos, or coming-of-age rituals for girls in Zambia. I’m drawn to subjects where different worlds meet each other. I believe that film is a powerful tool to approach the world from a different perspective. By paying attention to the small, I give space to the big. I want to tell stories visually, without filling everything in so that the viewer can feel, think and draw conclusions themselves.
I have an eye for detail, but never lose sight of the bigger picture. I conceive and direct documentaries and make TV programs for public broadcasting. Besides my own work, I also make films commissioned by television, festivals, municipalities and social organizations. My clients range from healthcare institutions to film festivals and social initiatives. What connects my work is that people are always at the center.
